Dog Man fans have two reasons to celebrate this October: a chance to revisit the books at Discover Chico’s storytime — and then see everyone’s favorite crime-fighting canine come to life onstage at Laxson Auditorium.
Dog Man: The Musical® comes to Chico on Thursday, Oct. 29, at 6:30 p.m. Based on Dav Pilkey’s worldwide bestselling book series, the family-friendly musical brings the humor, heart and wildly imaginative world of Dog Man from the page to the stage.
Start With Storytime at Children’s Park
Before the show, families can get into the Dog Man spirit at Storytime at Children’s Park at 9:30 a.m. outside of LoveBird Coffee.
This Friday, Oct. 23, and Friday, Oct. 30, storytime will feature books from the Dog Man series, giving young readers a chance to spend more time with the characters they love.
Even better, Discover Chico is providing a Dog Man book giveaway, so some lucky young readers will get to take the fun home with them.
Whether your child has read every Dog Man adventure or is just discovering the series, storytime is an easy way to build excitement around the books — and the live performance they inspired.
Then See Dog Man Live at Laxson
On Oct. 29, the adventure moves to Laxson Auditorium for Dog Man: The Musical®.
The production follows the heroic Dog Man — part dog, part man and all hero — in a fast-paced theatrical adventure packed with familiar characters, comedy and the offbeat creativity that has made Pilkey’s series a favorite among young readers.
For families who already love the books, seeing the story transformed into a live musical offers a completely new way to experience Dog Man together. And for kids who are newer to the series, it may be the beginning of a whole new reading obsession.
