Get to Know Chico’s Local Comedy Scene
If you haven’t checked out The Nerve, now is a good time.
Based at the Blue Room Theatre in Chico, The Nerve is helping grow the local comedy scene through improv, storytelling, and stand-up classes, jams, and performance opportunities.
Founder Dana Moore brought years of experience studying, teaching, and performing at New York comedy institutions, including Upright Citizens Brigade, Magnet Theater, and Peoples Improv Theater, back to her hometown. Through The Nerve, she’s helping create a space for Chico comedians to learn, experiment, and get onstage.
Catch a local performance, try an improv jam, or even take a class yourself. Then keep the laughs going with two nationally touring comedy shows coming to Laxson Auditorium.

Teachers, This One Is for You
Bored Teachers: Is It Friday Yet?! Comedy Tour
Thursday, Nov. 19 | 7:30 p.m.
Teachers have stories. Bored Teachers turns them into comedy.
The Is It Friday Yet?! Comedy Tour brings teacher-comedians together for a night of classroom confessions, painfully relatable moments, and the kind of stories educators normally save for the teachers’ lounge.
And this isn’t just an online phenomenon. Since launching its live tour in 2022, Bored Teachers has performed for more than 200,000 teachers, toured across the U.S. and internationally, and built an online community with more than 10 million followers and over 1 billion video views.
Teachers will recognize the chaos immediately. Parents and anyone who has ever spent time in a classroom will probably recognize plenty, too.
Grab your favorite teacher friends, leave the lesson plans behind, and give yourselves a night off.
Hannibal Buress Comes to Chico
Hannibal Buress
Friday, Dec. 4 | 7:30 p.m.
You may know Hannibal Buress from Broad City, The Eric Andre Show, Neighbors, Baywatch, or Spider-Man: Homecoming. On Dec. 4, you can see him where his career began: onstage doing stand-up.
Buress has built a distinctive comedy style around sharp observations, unexpected turns, and a famously laid-back delivery. After starting in Chicago’s comedy scene, he went on to acclaimed stand-up specials, television, and major film roles, becoming one of the most recognizable voices in contemporary comedy.
Streaming a comedy special is fun. Sitting in Laxson Auditorium when the whole room erupts at a punchline is something else entirely.
For one night only, Chico gets the live version.
