Chico World Music Festival 2015

Hosting music on 4 stages, this free event is an annual Chico State tradition. As in years past, the outdoor main stage will feature a wide range of world music artists; along with the majestic Laxson Auditorium. The Ruth Rowland Taylor stage will once again be featured as a workshop stage, and the ever–popular Kids Stage will highlight the wonderful talent of the North State's children.

The unique Brazilian singer/songwriter/lyricist/painter Kátia Moraes began her career in Rio de Janeiro in the 80s with her energetic band "O Espirito da Coisa.” This prolific performer exudes energy in her upbeat performance singing in both English and Portuguese all the while accompanied by her band the Brazilian Hearts!

Boss 501 is a dynamic group of musicians who pay tribute to the classic sounds of Jamaican Ska, Rocksteady, and Reggae through their unique interpretations of these early styles. Established in 2007 in Chico California by a group of CSU, Chico Students, Boss 501’s love for making stimulating and engaging music has helped established a name for themselves throughout California. Join Boss 501 on the reggae train at the 2015 Chico World Music Festival.

Arjun Verma is a sitarist trained by the legendary Maestro Ali Akbar Khan. Arjun’s playing incorporates musical elements drawn from his long apprenticeship with his father, Roop Verma. The combination of these influences results in a style encompassing the deeply contemplative as well as the exciting aspects of Indian Music. Joining Arjun in these performances will be Javad Butah on tabla and Nima Torabi on tanpura.
