This captivating musical experience is led by pianist Luther Allison, featuring the soulful voices of Quiana Lynell and Milton Suggs. Jazz originated from the African-Americn community in early 20th century New Orleans, combining musical traditions from Africa, Europe, Latin America, and the Caribbean. It evolved into a universal language, expressing optimism and humor through the blues, newfound expressive freedom through improvisation, and collaboration through the rhythms of swing. Jazz's influence spread across America and the world, becoming a symbol of individualism, ingenuity, democracy, and inclusiveness. Students will learn about the history of jazz and hear standards from figureheads like Louis Armstrong, Duke Elligton, and Bessie Smith.
