The band formed in 1992 in the seaside town of Albany, Western Australia, when sisters Vicki Thorn and Donna Simpson joined Josh Cunningham to make music. Initially touring through Australia in a van led the band to platinum albums, playing all the great California summer festivals, and sharing a stage with Bob Dylan. The Waifs have been applauded for their tight harmonies and mastery of the strings, and have become indie-rock concert favorites.
